DEADPOOL! DEADPOOL! DEADPOOL! (maybe spoiler alert?)

I know this wasn't on my list of upcoming blogs in my last post, but I saw Deadpool at the cinema today and I just had to talk about it! FYI, I may go off on a tangent and spoil the film at some point, so here's your spoiler alert!

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of superhero films. I'll go see the occasional Marvel or DC film if the trailer looks good or if someone recommends it to me, but overall I'm not that fussed. However, when I heard they were making a Deadpool film, I knew I had to see it! I was first introduced to the character of Deadpool on an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man. While watching this I practically fell in love with him. He was so sarcastic and funny and had a carefree attitude. One of my favourite things, in anything to do with film and tv, is the breaking of the fourth wall, and bloody hell was there a lot of it in that episode.

Now, I know I said I wasn't a fan of superhero movies, but I really do love researching characters from the superhero world. Last year I spent hours reading about all of Spider-Man's enemies on Wikipedia just so that I could pick a favourite (which is White Rabbit by the way). Anyway, before I watched this episode, called 'Ultimate Deadpool,' I had never heard of this character, so I did my research. From this I discovered Wade Wilson's back story, "powers," team affiliations, etc. and he essentially became my favourite person in the comic book world.

(I know it must sound weird to hear that I had never heard of Deadpool until an episode of a children's TV show which aired in 2013. But while I was researching, I found out that the character was portrayed, by Ryan Reynolds, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine which was released in 2009. I hope I don't lose any readers here when I say...I've never seen any X-Men film! They just never really appealed to me, but their stories did. So instead of watching the films, I just did the research.)

Anyway, let's talk about the film!

The opening? Brilliant! The opening credits were original and very funny. I don't want to just say what they were because it'll ruin the comedic effect, so you go see it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The story? Again, brilliant! The story itself did seem quite cliche, but the way it was portrayed made it enjoyable. The way they did this was by using a non-linear narrative, with Deadpool himself saying things like, "Now we're back to this part of the story.." or "I think we need to go back to the beginning for this.." Which brings me to.....

The Fourth Wall Breaks? Genius! It had just the perfect amount of breaking the fourth wall. Just as much to know you were watching Deadpool, but not so much that it got annoying.

The casting? Flawless! I swear Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. It's like the character was written especially so he could play him and the way he delievered the lines and acted just seemed to come effortlessly to him...also (hate to sound too much like a girl) but he is hot. Even with his weird scarred skin! The rest of the cast were all also very good, no flaws I can point out in that.

The humour? Just what I like! At last, a superhero films with sex, violence and swearing. Although there probably were not as many kills as other Marvel films, I definitely saw more blood and gore! By adding these elements, it just made the film seem more real, because realistically, if someone were to shoot you, whether you were had superpowers or not, your immediate reaction would probably be to scream, "FUCK!!"

The cameos? Yes there was a Stan Lee cameo....it's a Marvel film, what did you expect? Speaking of Marvel films...

The scene after the credits? Yes it's there! Right at the very end, after everyones names. It's basically Wade speaking to the camera, asking "Why are you still here?" He then talks about how they didn't have the budget to make a teaser for the sequel, and then saying, "What? Did you expect Samuel L Jackson to come in?" Now, because he mentioned the actor who plays Nick Fury in The Avengers, it makes you think that maybe he might be featured in an upcoming Avenger's film, even though throughout the film they were pushing on him becoming part of the X-Men.

Overall, the film was great, amazing, one of the best films I've seen in ages. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes superhero, funny, or just plain good movies!

So, go see it, if you haven't already!
