Great Scott..it's 2015!

On Wednesday, it was the 21st October 2015. Since Thursday, every part of the Back to The Future trilogy now takes place in the past. Thinking back to the first time I watched Back to The Future Part II, never would I have imagined that the world, or my life, would be like the way it is. I would have thought exactly what the writers, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, thought; that we would have flying cars, hover boards, self-tying shoelaces, and most importantly...pizza that can be cooked in a second! Although these were the more noticeable inventions in the film, there were a lot of things that the film makers got right.

Eyewear – At the dinner table, Marty McFly's kids wear some high-tech glasses that seem to be able to connect to other devices, as well as let the wearer be able to watch things while interacting with people around them at the same time. These have a similar resemblance to Google Glasses, which were released in 2013.

Movies – Thankfully the 'Jaws' franchise stopped after the fourth instalment, titled “Jaws: The Revenge” in 1987. That didn't stop executive producer, and director of Jaws, Steven Spielberg, from imagining the film to continue to produce sequels, now directed by his son, Max. Although the thought of “Jaws 19” was a bit of a far fetched idea, a lot of aspects about the idea did in fact come true. The image of the shark in the film is 3D, which is a very popular form of film watching today, also the premise of sequels and spin-offs being the prominent type of film that are released on a regular basis.

Nostalgia – Cafe 80's and the Antique Shop, where Marty buys the Sports Almanac, are examples of the nostalgia in Back to the Future Part II. People wearing previous era's clothing is quite popular today and these people are mostly labelled 'Hipsters.'

Video Calls – The use of video calls were first seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and then we saw them in Back to the Future. These calls are now a major part of life today, with the use of Skype and Face time allowing people in different countries to talk and see each other with the use of an internet connection.

These are only some of the similarities that 2015 reality has with Back to the Future 2015, and although our present may not be exactly like the future they imagined, it doesn't mean that it isn't great. We may not have flying cars, hover boards and instant pizza, but we have so much more. We have an internet database in which we can access any and all information and contact anyone in the world. We have smart phones, which are essentially computers that can fit in our pockets. We have medical advancements where we can print a prosthetic limb.

We have so much that makes the world a better place that no one would have imagined 30 years ago. And so, I'm going to end my first blog post with a question...if all of these things could have happened since 1985, can you imagine what we'll be able to achieve by the year 2045?
